Police and Security Training

Police and security professionals face complex, high-pressure situations that demand rapid, informed, and lawful decision-making. Traditional training methods — while valuable — often fall short in preparing personnel for the unpredictable, dynamic nature of real-world scenarios. From active threat response to evidence handling and public order management, teams must be equipped with both the knowledge and the practical experience to act with precision and confidence
Immersive simulation-based training bridges this gap by replicating real-life scenarios in a safe, controlled environment. Through virtual reality, officers and security staff can repeatedly practice critical protocols, improve decision-making under stress, and gain exposure to rare but high-impact events — all while reducing costs, minimizing risks, and standardizing training outcomes across the organization

The ATS trainings for police and security officers target different protocol areas, focusing on aspects that go beyond classic training and reinforcing real world skills

Protocol Area

Training Focus

Use of Force & De-escalation

Understanding the force continuum, applying de-escalation techniques, and making appropriate decisions under stress.

Arrest & Detention Procedures

Correct application of legal standards during search, seizure, arrest, and transport operations.

Active Threat & Critical Incident Response

Coordinated tactics for active shooter events, hostage situations, and other high-risk incidents.

Crowd Management & Public Order

Safe and effective strategies for large gatherings, protests, and riot control scenarios.

Access Control & Perimeter Security

Establishing and maintaining secure zones, conducting screenings, and responding to perimeter breaches.

Communications & Command Protocols

Proper radio communication, chain-of-command adherence, and situational reporting under pressure.

Threat Assessment & Intelligence Gathering

Identifying potential risks, analyzing behavioral indicators, and responding proactively.

Challenges of Traditional Police and Security Training

Solution provided through ATS VR training

Limited Realism: Classroom or static drills often fail to recreate the unpredictability and stress of real-world incidents.

High-Fidelity Scenarios: VR simulations immerse trainees in realistic, high-pressure environments that mirror actual threats and situations.

Safety Risks: Live exercises can expose participants to injury or unsafe conditions during physical drills.

Safe, Controlled Environment: Training occurs in a virtual space where mistakes become learning opportunities without real-world consequences.

High Costs: Organizing live exercises, mock scenarios, and logistics can be resource-intensive.

Cost-Effective & Scalable: Once developed, VR scenarios can be reused and updated with minimal additional cost.

Inconsistent Experiences: Variations in instructors, environments, or conditions lead to uneven training quality.

Standardized Protocol Practice: Every participant experiences identical scenarios, ensuring consistent learning and assessment.

Limited Exposure to Rare Events: Trainees rarely encounter critical but infrequent scenarios, such as active shooters or terrorist incidents.

Repeatable, Diverse Scenarios: VR allows unlimited practice of both routine tasks and high-impact, low-frequency events.

Difficult Performance Evaluation: Assessing decision-making under stress is often subjective and reliant on instructor observation.

Data-Driven Feedback: Detailed analytics track reactions, decision paths, and response times, enabling objective performance reviews.

Challenging to Update Training: Changes in policies, laws, or threat landscapes require new materials and retraining cycles.

Rapid Adaptation: Scenarios can be quickly updated to reflect evolving protocols, legal standards, or emerging threats.

Logistical Barriers: Coordinating physical locations, vehicles, props, and personnel limits training frequency.

Flexible & On-Demand Access: VR training can be delivered anytime, anywhere, without extensive logistical planning.

In partnership with TacticalEdge Solutions, LLC (TEVR), ATS is creating a series of simulations for the Police and Security training sector. USTASC is a veteran-led firm with over 30 years of law enforcement experience and together, utilizing the vast experience of ATS in educational VR modules design and development are working to develop the Tactical Edge Virtual Reality (TEVR) training program.

This initiative, imagined and spearheaded by TacticalEdge VR Solutions, LLC (TEVR) Evan Avnet, focuses on delivering highly realistic police and security training modules. The first TEVR training series addresses critical scenarios such as domestic assault, disorderly conduct, burglary and assault and battery. With 15+ additional modules in development over the next 12 months, ATS is actively expanding its law enforcement simulation training portfolio to meet evolving needs.

All simulations are developed by ATS and are designed in collaboration with Mr. Avnet, a SWAT-certified officer, Maryland Police instructor and director of TEVR. TEVR training modules simulate high-stress scenarios, including de-escalation, use-of-force decision-making, and situational awareness.

Priority learning objectives include:

– Improve reaction times in realistic, high-stress scenarios;

– Increase in successful de-escalation outcomes, as measured by AAR metrics;

– Enhanced situational awareness through realistic, customizable environments.

ATS’s interdisciplinary team combines vast expertise in XR development, safety, compliance, triage and tactical training, plus performance data analytics to create solutions that meet and exceed client expectations. This strategic partnership TEVR ensures that these training align with the practical and legal demands of law enforcement and security operations, supported by Mr. Avnet’s extensive experience in SWAT operations, firearms instruction, and courtroom testimon
